El resplandor del Spondylus llenó el ático, ¡*de una*! Pax agarró la mano de Maya, sus ojos brillando con asombro.
The Spondylus glow filled the attic, just like that! Pax grabbed Maya’s hand, his eyes shining with amazement.
Maya dijo, con su voz calmada, "Parece que este año nuevo nos lleva a una aventura, Pax. Agárrate fuerte."
Maya said, in her calm voice, “It seems this New Year is taking us on an adventure, Pax. Hold on tight.”
De repente, ¡*puf*! Desaparecieron del ático. Se encontraron en una playa soleada. Pax exclamó, "¡*Chévere*! ¿Dónde estamos?"
Suddenly, *poof*! They disappeared from the attic. They found themselves on a sunny beach. Pax exclaimed, “Cool! Where are we?”
Maya examinó el lugar. "Estamos en la costa de Ecuador, hace mucho tiempo. Mira, Pax. ¡Los primeros pueblos!"
Maya examined the place. “We are on the coast of Ecuador, a long time ago. Look, Pax! The First People!”
Vieron personas construyendo casas de caña y pescando con redes. Un hombre anciano se acercó a ellos. "Bienvenidos, *guaguas*. Soy Inti."
They saw people building cane houses and fishing with nets. An old man approached them. “Welcome, children. I am Inti.”
Pax, usando su mejor español, preguntó, "Señor Inti, ¿quiénes son estas personas?"
Pax, using his best Spanish, asked, “Señor Inti, who are these people?”
Inti sonrió. "Somos los Valdivia, los primeros alfareros de América. Estamos celebrando el comienzo de un nuevo ciclo, un nuevo año. Y el Spondylus… es muy importante para nosotros." Señaló un collar de conchas Spondylus alrededor de su cuello. "Trae buena suerte."
Inti smiled. “We are the Valdivia, the first potters of America. We are celebrating the beginning of a new cycle, a new year. And the Spondylus… it is very important to us.” He pointed to a necklace of Spondylus shells around his neck. “It brings good luck.”
Pax miró su propia concha Spondylus. "¿Cómo sabías que la tenemos?"
Pax looked at his own Spondylus shell. “How did you know we have it?”
Inti se rió. "El Spondylus siempre encuentra a quien lo necesita."
Inti laughed. “The Spondylus always finds who needs it.”
