Every moment of our lives is a choice, whether we’re aware of it or not.
When we don’t know we’re making a choice, we’ve ceded our control and agency to external forces. After 35 years of life seemingly on autopilot, I found myself in a place that made no sense. All my best energy and time was being funneled into my career and a paycheck. But were either of those worthy of occupying the #1 spot in my life? Everything else took a backseat: my health, my wellness, my wife and kids, my friends – my life.
Once I recognized that the cost of how I was living my life was too much, the question became: what would I do about it? I realized that asking the question “What if…?” allowed me to deconstruct the most fundamental beliefs of my life, imagine a world of new priorities, and find the courage to build a life on top of them.
What this blog is about: The journey of letting go of a “secure” future with a stable paycheck as I relocate my family to coastal Ecuador and grapple with all the fears associated with giving up my career, unpacking the role of addiction in my life, what I’m passing on to my children, exploring their education and my role in it, what they need to thrive now and in the future, and whether there is a world where “more” is not always the answer. I’m finding out what life is like when built from a place of conscious intention.
