Maya sonrió a Pax, ajustándose su mochila. “¡Listo, Pax! Hoy te voy a contar sobre los misteriosos constructores de las Tolas, aquí en esta isla mágica.”
Maya smiled at Pax, adjusting her backpack. “Ready, Pax! Today I’m going to tell you about the mysterious builders of the Tolas, right here on this magical island.”
Pax brincó. “¡Chévere! ¿Eran gigantes, Maya? ¡Dime que eran gigantes!” Agitó la concha Spondylus emocionado.
Pax bounced. “Cool! Were they giants, Maya? Tell me they were giants!” He shook the Spondylus shell excitedly.
Maya se rió. “Bueno, la gente los llama ‘Los Primeros Habitantes’ o a veces ‘gigantes’, porque las Tolas son enormes. Estamos en la Isla de La Tolita, ¿ves? Estos montículos, o tolas, son antiguos lugares ceremoniales y tumbas. ¡Imagínate cuánta gente trabajó aquí!”
Maya laughed. “Well, people call them ‘The First People’ or sometimes ‘giants,’ because the Tolas are enormous. We’re on La Tolita Island, see? These mounds, or tolas, are ancient ceremonial sites and tombs. Just imagine how many people worked here!”
“¿Tumbas? ¡Guau! ¿Hay tesoros?” Pax preguntó, con los ojos brillantes.
“Tombs? Wow! Are there treasures?” Pax asked, his eyes shining.
“¡Sí, guagua! Se han encontrado muchas cosas chéveres, como figurillas de oro, cerámica muy bonita, y artefactos de piedra. Todo eso nos cuenta sobre cómo vivían, qué creían, y qué tan hábiles eran.” Maya señaló una Tola grande cubierta de hierba. “Esta cultura floreció desde el 600 a.C. hasta el 400 d.C. ¡Es una historia larga y fascinante!”
“Yes, kid! Many cool things have been found, like gold figurines, beautiful pottery, and stone artifacts. All of that tells us about how they lived, what they believed, and how skilled they were.” Maya pointed to a large, grass-covered Tola. “This culture flourished from 600 BC to 400 AD. It’s a long and fascinating story!”
Pax corrió hacia la Tola y la tocó. “¡Siento la energía! ¡Es como si estuvieran aquí todavía!”
Pax ran to the Tola and touched it. “I feel the energy! It’s like they are still here!”
Maya sonrió. “Tal vez lo estén, Pax. Tal vez lo estén. Y recuerda, ¡hay muchos misterios que todavía estamos tratando de resolver! ¿Listo para explorar más?”
Maya smiled. “Maybe they are, Pax. Maybe they are. And remember, there are many mysteries that we are still trying to solve! Ready to explore more?”
