Maya sonrió a Pax.
Maya smiled at Pax.
“¡Qué chévere! Ahora, Pax, vamos a viajar a un lugar muy especial: Chirije. ¡Prepárate!”
“How cool! Now, Pax, we’re going to travel to a very special place: Chirije. Get ready!”
Pax sujetó con fuerza la concha Spondylus. ¡Zas! Se encontraron en una costa cubierta de vegetación.
Pax held the Spondylus shell tightly. Whoosh! They found themselves on a coast covered in vegetation.
“¡Guau! ¿Dónde estamos, Maya?” preguntó Pax, mirando a su alrededor.
“Wow! Where are we, Maya?” Pax asked, looking around.
“Estamos en el sitio arqueológico de Chirije, Pax. Aquí vivieron personas hace miles de años. Chirije era un pueblo muy importante para la cultura Chorrera.”
“We are at the Chirije Archaeological Site, Pax. People lived here thousands of years ago. Chirije was a very important village for the Chorrera culture.”
“¿Chorrera? ¿Cómo la cascada?” preguntó Pax, rascándose la cabeza.
“Chorrera? Like the waterfall?” Pax asked, scratching his head.
Maya rió. “No exactamente, *guagua*. La cultura Chorrera fue una civilización que existió en esta zona hace mucho tiempo. Eran excelentes agricultores y pescadores. Chirije era su centro, ¡imagínate!”
Maya laughed. “Not exactly, *guagua*. The Chorrera culture was a civilization that existed in this area a long time ago. They were excellent farmers and fishermen. Chirije was their center, imagine that!”
Maya señaló unas pequeñas colinas cubiertas de hierba. “Mira, Pax. Esas son las *tolas*, montículos hechos por la gente de Chirije. Construían sus casas y templos encima de ellas para protegerse de las inundaciones.”
Maya pointed to some small, grass-covered hills. “Look, Pax. Those are *tolas*, mounds made by the people of Chirije. They built their houses and temples on top of them to protect themselves from floods.”
Pax corrió hacia una de las *tolas*. “¡Puedo ver el mar desde aquí! ¡Qué vista tan chévere!”
Pax ran towards one of the *tolas*. “I can see the sea from here! What a cool view!”
Maya sonrió. “Sí, Pax. Desde aquí podían vigilar el mar y sus cultivos. También eran muy buenos navegantes. Intercambiaban productos con otras comunidades a lo largo de la costa.”
Maya smiled. “Yes, Pax. From here, they could watch the sea and their crops. They were also very good sailors. They traded products with other communities along the coast.”
“¿Y qué cultivaban?” preguntó Pax, curioso.
“And what did they grow?” Pax asked, curious.
“Cultivaban maíz, frijoles, calabazas, yuca… ¡De todo un poco! También pescaban y recolectaban mariscos. Eran muy ingeniosos.”
“They grew corn, beans, squash, yucca… a little bit of everything! They also fished and gathered shellfish. They were very resourceful.”
Pax miró alrededor, imaginando la vida en Chirije hace miles de años. “¡Qué increíble! Me gustaría haberlos conocido.”
Pax looked around, imagining life in Chirije thousands of years ago. “How amazing! I would have liked to have met them.”
Maya asintió. “Gracias a los arqueólogos, podemos aprender sobre su vida y sus costumbres. ¡Es como viajar en el tiempo!”
Maya nodded. “Thanks to archaeologists, we can learn about their lives and customs. It’s like traveling in time!”
Maya le dio una palmadita en el hombro a Pax. “Ya es hora de irnos, *mijo*. Pero recuerda siempre lo que aprendimos hoy sobre Chirije y la cultura Chorrera. Son parte importante de nuestra historia.”
Maya patted Pax on the shoulder. “It’s time to go, *mijo*. But always remember what we learned today about Chirije and the Chorrera culture. They are an important part of our history.”
Pax asintió, listo para su próxima aventura.
Pax nodded, ready for his next adventure.
