Pax, ¡de una! Vamos a construir nuestra balsa, ¿sí?
Pax, let’s do it! Let’s build our raft, okay?
Maya asintió.
Maya nodded.
“Sí, Pax. Pero antes, ¿qué te parece un pequeño examen para repasar lo que hemos aprendido sobre la época antigua? Así estaremos bien preparados para entender cómo navegaban.”
“Yes, Pax. But before that, how about a little quiz to review what we’ve learned about the ancient era? That way, we’ll be well-prepared to understand how they navigated.”
Pax hizo una mueca. “¿Un examen? ¡Ay, no! Pero bueno, si es para la balsa…”
Pax grimaced. “A quiz? Oh no! But okay, if it’s for the raft…”
Maya sonrió. “¡Chévere! Primera pregunta: ¿Quiénes fueron los primeros habitantes de Ecuador?”
Maya smiled. “Great! First question: Who were the first inhabitants of Ecuador?”
Pax pensó un momento. “Mmm… Los Valdivia, ¿verdad? Y los Chorrera también.”
Pax thought for a moment. “Hmm… The Valdivia, right? And the Chorrera too.”
“¡Correcto! ¿Y qué eran famosos por hacer?”
“Correct! And what were they famous for doing?”
“Los Valdivia hacían cerámica muy antigua, y los Chorrera… ¡las botellas silbato! ¡Me acuerdo!” Pax respondió con entusiasmo.
“The Valdivia made very old pottery, and the Chorrera… the whistling bottles! I remember!” Pax replied enthusiastically.
Maya asintió. “¡Muy bien! Ahora, ¿qué usaban para navegar?”
Maya nodded. “Very good! Now, what did they use to navigate?”
Pax se rascó la cabeza. “Bueno, no tenían GPS, ¡eso seguro! Creo que usaban las estrellas, el sol, y las corrientes del mar. Y la forma de las nubes también, ¿no?”
Pax scratched his head. “Well, they didn’t have GPS, that’s for sure! I think they used the stars, the sun, and the ocean currents. And the shape of the clouds too, right?”
“¡Exacto! Eran muy observadores y conocían bien el mar. Última pregunta: ¿Qué significa Spondylus, el nombre de tu concha mágica?”
“Exactly! They were very observant and knew the sea well. Last question: What does Spondylus mean, the name of your magic shell?”
Pax sonrió, orgulloso. “Significa… espina, en griego antiguo. Porque tiene espinas.”
Pax smiled, proud. “It means… thorn, in ancient Greek. Because it has spines.”
“¡Excelente, Pax! ¡Pasaste el examen! Ahora sí, ¡manos a la obra con la balsa!”
“Excellent, Pax! You passed the quiz! Now, let’s get to work on the raft!”
