Maya: ¡Pax, chévere! ¿Listo para nuestra próxima aventura? Hoy vamos a aprender cómo los antiguos navegaban.
Maya: Pax, awesome! Ready for our next adventure? Today we’re going to learn how the ancients navigated.
Pax: ¡De una! Pero, ¿a dónde vamos? ¿Hay guaguas de mar?
Pax: For sure! But where are we going? Are there sea babies (dolphins)?
Maya: Vamos a imaginar que estamos en una balsa, como las que usaban los Chorrera. Recuerda el Spondylus.
Maya: We’re going to imagine we’re on a raft, like the ones the Chorrera used. Remember the Spondylus.
Pax: ¡Sí! La concha mágica. ¿Nos ayudará a navegar?
Pax: Yes! The magic shell. Will it help us navigate?
Maya: En cierto modo. Imagina que estamos en el Océano Pacífico. Los Chorrera construían balsas grandes, hechas de troncos de balsa livianos y resistentes.
Maya: In a way. Imagine we’re in the Pacific Ocean. The Chorrera built large rafts, made of light and strong balsa logs.
Pax: ¿Como una casa flotante? ¡Qué chévere!
Pax: Like a floating house? How awesome!
Maya: Más o menos. Estas balsas no tenían motor, ¡usaban velas y remos! Y eran expertos en leer las corrientes marinas y las estrellas.
Maya: More or less. These rafts didn’t have a motor, they used sails and paddles! And they were experts at reading ocean currents and the stars.
Pax: ¿Las estrellas? ¿Como cuando abuelita cuenta historias?
Pax: The stars? Like when grandma tells stories?
Maya: Exacto. Usaban el sol durante el día y las estrellas por la noche para orientarse. Sabían qué estrellas los llevarían al norte, al sur, ¡a donde quisieran ir!
Maya: Exactly. They used the sun during the day and the stars at night to guide themselves. They knew which stars would take them north, south, wherever they wanted to go!
Pax: ¡Wow! Entonces, el Spondylus les daba suerte, pero su conocimiento era el verdadero poder.
Pax: Wow! So, the Spondylus gave them luck, but their knowledge was the real power.
Maya: ¡Así es! Y no solo navegaban cerca de la costa. ¡Iban muy lejos! Hasta México y Perú, intercambiando cosas como el Spondylus, obsidiana y otros tesoros.
Maya: That’s right! And they didn’t just navigate near the coast. They went very far! As far as Mexico and Peru, exchanging things like the Spondylus, obsidian, and other treasures.
Pax: ¡Eran como los primeros comerciantes internacionales! ¡Qué bacán!
Pax: They were like the first international traders! How cool!
Maya: Correcto. Y su habilidad para navegar en estas balsas demuestra lo inteligentes y valientes que eran. Usaban piedras especiales como anclas.
Maya: Correct. And their ability to navigate in these rafts shows how intelligent and brave they were. They used special stones as anchors.
Pax: ¡Quiero construir una balsa! ¿Podemos, Maya?
Pax: I want to build a raft! Can we, Maya?
Maya: Tal vez no una real, pero podemos hacer un modelo. ¡Será divertido!
Maya: Maybe not a real one, but we can make a model. It’ll be fun!
